Your First Step Is
To Determine The Type Of Coverage You Need. |
Initial
Question: Do you need Long-Term (Expatriate) or Temporary
(Travel) health insurance?
1.
Long-Term
Health Insurance (Expatriate)
This type of insurance is recommended if
it is your primary health coverage
during an extended mission abroad. This is the most
comprehensive and is annually-renewable.
Other terms used to
describe this type of coverage are "annual"
or "annually-renewable health insurance,"
"permanent health
insurance," and
"expatriate
major medical
insurance."
2.
Temporary
Health Insurance (Travel from USA)
This type of insurance is for sudden and
unexpected injury or illness while abroad on a temporary basis. This
insurance is not intended as a substitute for comprehensive
long-term coverage.
However, there are many
circumstances which may call for Temporary health
insurance. For example:
•
Limited budget -
Temporary
insurance typically costs much less.
• Medical condition
- many people do not qualify (medically) for
Long-Term
(Expatriate)
insurance.
• You have insurance in
the USA - you have Medicare, Tricare, or other
primary coverage upon return to the USA.

Key
Concept:
The most significant differences in
international health insurance are not in
the benefits and rates, but rather in the
wording of the plan definitions and exclusions
by which your insurance
benefits are actually paid . . . or not paid!

or "Long-Term" (Expatriate) insurance, go to
