You know exactly what to
expect here - "US-style" health insurance
choices only.
4 Criteria for "US-Style."
(1) Premium rates
and insurance benefits are US dollar-denominated.
(2) Common US
terminology is used in the wording of the
insurance contract.
(3) The insurance plan is administered within the
USA.
(4) The insurance company Is regulated
within the USA (most important).
Why
US-Style?
1.
Convenience. The US dollar is "spoken" and
accepted worldwide.
2. Better
Communication. Telephone,
postal mail, e-mail, etc.
to and from the USA is among the
most reliable in the world.
3. Cost
Efficient. For both US citizens and non-US citizens, US-style
companies offer some of the most dependable and cost-efficient health
insurance in the world.
4. Regulated Within
The USA. (This is a
vitally important feature.) In the event of a dispute
regarding an
insurance claim, your State Department of Insurance may be of assistance, if your
insurance company is legally registered in that State.
Here are two ways that an insurance
company may be registered
and regulated
in your State. (Exact terminology may differ from state to
state.)
"admitted" - The insurance company
is fully regulated under your State's life and health insurance laws.
"approved"
- The insurance company operates under "surplus lines" insurance laws, but is not fully regulated.
However, if a state obtains credible evidence of unsatisfactory claims
practices or unsatisfactory financial condition, then the state
may revoke the certificate of authority by which the
insurance company legally operates. Such action could influence or encourage
similar action in other US states and in some foreign countries.
While not fully regulated, the insurance company is motivated to address legitimate complaints that are brought to its attention through a State
Insurance Commission.
* Note: In my experience, if you happen to have an
insurance claim, a non-registered
insurance company is more likely to dispute your claim. This is one of the most important
reasons why you'll only see
"US-style" international insurance offered here.
5. An Extra Level Of
Service - No Additional Cost.
